Jim & Sonia Repine's Futaleufu Lodge

The Area

Futaleufu Lodge is located on a 200 acre ranch on the Futaleufu river in the Futaleufu Valley in Chilean Patagonia in Southern Chile. The lodge holds private leases on nearly a thousand additional acres offering exclusive streamside access to incredible angling.

The Futaleufu is an extremely picturesque area offering one of the world's most idyllic settings for a fly fishing  lodge. Located approximately 800 miles south of Santiago, Chile and only ten miles from Argentina's border, Futaleufu Lodge rests on the banks of the Futaleufu River. Surrounded by mountains and nestled in the beautiful Valley of the Stairs, the lodge is blessed with some of the finest and least exploited fishing in Chile.

The number and quality of fishing opportunities in the Futaleufu region are remarkable. The Rio Futaleufu and Rio Espolon are classic flyfishing waters. In addition, a four hour drive to the south offers a choice of two other equally beautiful streams--the Rios Palena and Malito. Lagos (lakes) Espolon and nearby Yelcho enjoy stellar reputations by the flyfishing community if you prefer lake fishing. There are also several other small streams and lakes in the region that are largely undiscovered by anglers and wait to be explored.

Lodge and Accommodations

The main farm house was converted into a lodge with two very comfortable bedrooms upstairs, each room accommodating 2 persons. Each bedrooms has a private bath and shower. The lounge and dining room are located downstairs and feature comfortable chairs, a well stocked bar, fireplace and a fly tying area.

The Fishing

The lodge is equipped with a four wheel drive vehicle, rafts and horses. All fishing is guided by stateside licensed pro guides offering day long and overnight float trips, various destinations, including overnight, by horseback, and walk to from the lodge. There are long wading flats beginning at the front door.

Browns and rainbows from 12 to 18 inches would be average though the lodge's 12 season record rainbow was 27 inches taken on a #18 Adams. The brown record is 32 inches, also taken on a dry fly (# 8 Jim's Green). While trout are the dominant species, there are small runs of salmon - Atlantic, Chinook, and Coho.

Futaleufu Lodge follows a strict catch and careful release program. For those who would like a trophy fish mount, the lodge will recommend a taxidermist who can recreate your trophy beautifully in fiberglass or graphite from a good photo and description.

“BREAKING NEWS” from Futaleufu Lodge

Save $840 on your next trip if you book by September 1, 2002

Are you as tired of bad news as Sony and I are? Disasters of all kinds seem to be everywhere. But you and I know better. Media hype affects us all, yet you remember a remote magic valley hidden away in the southern Andes of Chilean Patagonia where none of that matters. It wasn’t a dream, you were there, and it really was all that you remember.

It’s time now to return, to put you on a program of “Calm Restoration” for a week, and we’re ready to make it easier than ever. First is air transportation. Is it safe yet? Flying now is the safest it’s been in the entire history of aviation. Precautionary measures have increased ten fold since September 11, and continue to improve. Security grows tighter and tighter, as new technology appears at an ever-increasing rate. And the best news is airfares. An hour spent on the Internet will reveal the lowest ticket prices in years.

In the same spirit, Sony and I want to offer you a ‘great ticket price’ here at the lodge as well. The 2003 season rate is $4,200 per week per person. However, if you get a deposit to the bank before September 1, 2002, you can enjoy a 20% Early Deposit Discount. This discount applies to the entire $4,200 fee.

In other words by depositing early you can subtract $840 dollars from $4,200.

That leaves you with a balance to pay of $3,360. If you prefer to book through an agency you will still qualify for the discount. You have until September 1, but the sooner you deposit, the closer you will come to having the dates you want. Email or Fax today for available openings. Bookings are coming in now.

Balance is due 30 days prior to arrival. In the event of cancellation, deposits may be applied toward another week based on a space available basis. Futaleufu Lodge is especially well suited to couples and can accommodate a maximum of six (6) people a week. At maximum capacity, guests must be part of a group or family. Because of the popularity of Futaleufu Lodge you must book early.
